The Georgia National Guard conducted free and voluntary COVID-19 testing on May 15 at the Clarke County Jail.

The testing was made available to jail employees along with inmates, according to Clarke County Sheriff Ira Edwards.

The tests were requested out "of an abundance of caution and not in response to any concerns of documented exposure to COVID-19 or for any symptomatic individuals," according to Edwards.

Of the tests on the employees, 29 of 145 volunteered for testing with 27 testing negative and two marked as invalid.

Of those administered to jail inmates, 102 of 235 inmates volunteered to have the test and 97 tested negative and five listed as invalid.
